It is all about the animals. Always and in all ways. Everything we do and all we work toward is to create second (or third or fourth) chances for animals that have been cast off, cast out.
Every life is meant to be embraced and cherished. And that is the motto we live by… every life is worth it.
Rescue Ranchito Residents + Rescues
Residents:

Lola was our first foray into the world of equine kill pens. And wow has she shined a light on so many hard truths about the horse industry. Lola has been with us for over eight years now. She is our matriarch, she is the one who opened our eyes and hearts to rescued equines, and she forever changed the way we think, interact and represent rescued animals.

It all started with a picture posted on Facebook. I knew the minute I saw him that he was meant to be with me. This mustang has done nothing short of change my life. I have learned so much about myself, horses and the intimate connection that can be formed between one women and one very special mustang.

The man, the myth, the legend! This mini mule has so much personality. Like, SO MUCH personality. He should, in fact, have his own social media account. He is the herd protector, court jester and sweetest love bug. This misfit herd would be incomplete without his presence. And we feel lucky, daily, that he found his way to us.

This horse. He is the most stoic, kind, steady, dapper gelding we have ever laid eyes on. While we don’t know his past, it has taken him a long time to open up to us. But it brings tears to our eyes now, to see his personality emerging, his trust growing and his enduring nature shine right on through. Our love for him deepens daily.

When you know, you know. This is just how it works with me and rescue animals. It’s a connection I can’t explain, but it drives me to do… well crazy things! It’s just plain and simple how I roll. Kestrel is an undeniably gorgeous mustang from a northern Nevada herd, rounded up, as they do with mustangs. Despite almost ending up in a dangerous place, she is now safe and sound with us!

This mule. He is just the definition of handsome. He has the personality to match. He loves his best buddy Shaq, loves carrots and being involved with every little thing you are doing, he has a huge case of FOMO. But we never want to leave him out, not ever again. He was also a co-rescue with the beloved and amazing Saving Gracie Equine Healing Foundation. Ernie, we LOVE you!!

When we say we have a misfit crew here at Rescue Ranchito we mean it! Shaq is a huge, massive… puppy dog! He is a Percheron, a type of draft horse, and he was co-rescued with my dear friend Barb Phillips of Saving Gracie Equine Healing Foundation. He is *living* his life, and we so enjoy having his energy in our orbits.

Oh my sweetest, most precious, monster man Monkey! He loves his humans, but not so much our other horse and mule residents. But, that is what we do here… provide the space for each and every one of our equines to be exactly who they are, no pressure to be anything they are not. That is what true safety looks like… and Monkey is nothing if not his own man!
