transforming america's mustangs from kill pens to adventure partners

We intercept at risk-mustangs and burros before they face the slaughter pipeline. By stepping in early, we ensure their journey begins with safety, not trauma.

Upon arrival, every animal starts with rehabilitation and assessment. We use this quiet time to uncover who they are and design a tailored training plan unique to them. Only when they are truly ready do they enter our formal training program - whether that timeline is three months or a year.

We remain deeply hands-on throughout the process. If we feel a horse isn't thriving, we change course immediately.

This flexible, patient approach allows us to compassionately develop their full potential and prepares them for the ultimate goal: a successful, lasting forever home.

With 60,000+ mustangs in holding and thousands shipped to slaughter annually, the safety net is gone. Sanctuaries are at capacity, yet untrained mustangs and burros enter the auction pipeline daily. This is why we prioritize training and adoptability. But this work takes resources, and we can't do it alone.

"I have watched and seen firsthand Erin & Casey's rescue process for close to two years now. Never have I witnessed such selflessness, preparation and respect in how they welcome a new much-deserving soul into Rescue Ranchito."

THe humans behind the horses

A small, hands on team committed to doing right by every mustang we rescue.

Rescue Ranchito is a family-supported effort founded by sisters Erin and Casey Brown. We aren't a large organization with layers of staff - we are a small team directly involved in every step of the journey. From initial rescue and daily care, to training, adoption, and long-term follow-up, we take personal responsibility for every horse we rescue. Our approach was born from experience. We've seen the cycle of instability that happens when mustangs are rushed or mismatched. By keeping our numbers intentionally small, we can slow the process down, adapt to each horse's needs, and focus on outcomes over optics. Every intake is a lifetime commitment, and every placement is designed to be permanent. We believe rescue only works when it lasts.
